What began as a simple idea during Delanie Bezuidenhout’s hospitalisation in 2009 — when she received treatment through a medical drip bag — sparked a mission to transform that very item into something meaningful: school shoes. Today, Delanie leads this purpose-driven journey as the General Manager of My Walk Made with Soul.
What began as an idea during Delanie Bezuidenhout’s hospitalisation in 2009—when she received treatment through a medical drip bag—evolved into a mission: recycling that very item into something meaningful—school shoes.
Delanie, who is now our General Manager, tirelessly researched the feasibility of turning uncontaminated medical waste into recycled shoes in South Africa. Over years of advocacy and collaboration, she gained the support of key stakeholders, Netcare and Adcock Ingram Critical Care. Their shared belief in the project led to the first pilot in 2016 and, ultimately, the opening of the My Walk Made with Soul factory in 2020.
Since then, under Delanie’s leadership as General Manager and the guidance of the board, the organisation continues to donate school shoes to children in need and recycle medical waste. These achievements are not just statistics—they are stories. Each pair of shoes represents a child, their dignity, and the chance to Step into Greatness.
